7 reasons plant parents fighting fungus gnats switched to Perfect Plantista (besides the cinnamon-gum smell)

Fungus gnats can be frustrating, but there's a better way.

Reason 1: One female fungus gnat can lay up to 200 eggs

She lays them in the top of your potting soil, and the larvae live there too. The gnats you see flying are only the adults, so one spray isn't the end of it.

That's why the directions for gnats are all about the soil: mist the top ½–1 inch daily for 5–7 days, then 2–3 times a week, for at least 4 weeks.

Reason 2: It goes on the soil and the leaves

Fungus gnats start in the soil. Spider mites, mealybugs and thrips hide on stems and under leaves. The same bottle covers both: mist the top of the soil for gnats, and the tops and undersides of leaves for everything else.

It's ready to use, with no mixing or measuring. Shake it, unlock or attach the sprayer, and mist.

Reason 3: Sticky traps catch the adults. The next generation is still in the soil.

Yellow sticky traps are a good way to see how many gnats are flying. But the eggs and larvae are down in the top of the soil, where a trap can't reach.

Treating the soil on a schedule covers the part of the life cycle a trap can't.

Reason 4: It smells like cinnamon chewing gum

The scent comes from the active ingredients: thyme oil, cinnamon bark oil and peppermint oil. It fades within a few hours after you spray.

Reason 5: Mist the soil every time you water

Once the first round is done, make it part of watering day: a light mist on the top of the soil each time you water.

Refill Club sends the next 16 oz bottle on the schedule you pick, so you don't run out halfway through.

Reason 6: About 100,000 customers, rated 4.7 out of 5

That's the average across 2,315 reviews of Perfect Plantista on Loox. You'll find some of them below, exactly as they were written.

Reason 7: The Starter Kit works out to about $0.61 a plant

One 8 oz bottle treats the foliage, stems and soil of about 10–12 plants in 6-inch pots, and the 16 oz roughly doubles that: about $1.59 a plant.

For a big collection, the Starter Kit pairs a ready-to-use 16 oz bottle with a 4 oz concentrate that makes eight more 16 oz bottles.

The plan

Your fungus gnat plan

Fungus gnats lay their eggs in the top of the soil, and the larvae live there too. The flies you see are only the adults.

  1. TodayLightly mist the top ½–1 inch of soil. Skip the leaves unless you're also treating a leaf pest.
  2. Next 4 weeksMist the soil daily for 5–7 days, then 2–3 times a week. Let the soil dry fully between waterings.
  3. From then onKeep the soil on the dry side between waterings, and mist the top when you water.

Mist the soil every time you water.

This isn't a knockdown spray. Consistency is everything: most infestations need 2–4 weeks of regular treatment to fully clear.

I am loving this pest spray! It smells like cinnamon and makes the house smell amazing. Apparently the fungus gnats aren’t so happy with it though😆. Their numbers have drastically reduced since I started using this. I like the look of the bottle, especially the large leaf on the front. I am thinking though that the logo Perfect Plantista should be much larger on the bottle, so that it is more prominent and easily recognized.

I love the smell! Leaves my house smelling like cinnamon. I can see a reduction in fungus gnats and can actively see small bugs in the soil repelling off of soil and moss

Questions

Which pests does it work on?

It works on the usual suspects: fungus gnats, spider mites, aphids, thrips, mealybugs, scale, and whiteflies. This isn't a knockdown spray. It works by coating, smothering, and disrupting pest activity over time. Consistency is everything- most infestations need 2–4 weeks of regular treatment to fully clear. (Your patience will be rewarded.)

How much do I need?

One 8oz bottle fully treats the foliage, stems, and soil of about 10–12 plants in 6" pots with a bit left over for spot treatments. For larger collections, the 16oz bottle roughly doubles your coverage. And if you're managing a serious indoor jungle, our 4oz concentrate makes up to sixteen 8oz bottles.

Will this work with my plants?

Our Houseplant Pest Spray is made for indoor ornamental plants; tropicals, aroids, ferns, you name it.

A few ground rules: Sensitive plants (succulents, orchids, cacti, snake plants) need extra care. Spray in the early morning, let sit for up to 10 minutes, then rinse or wipe thoroughly and keep out of direct light until dry. Always spot test a small, hidden leaf first if you're worried. Wait 24–48 hours before full application.

One thing to note: more isn't always better. Overuse can cause leaf spotting or burn, especially on delicate foliage. Follow the recommended frequency (every 5–10 days for active infestations) and let your plants rest between treatments.

Have pets? Read our pet safety guide before you spray. For indoor ornamental plants. Always follow the directions on the label.
